Working principle

The PH5022 glass-made pH value measurement functions as a classic potentiometric combination electrode.

Firstly, the hemispherical pH-sensitive glass membrane at the tip develops a boundary potential directly proportional to the difference in hydrogen-ion activity between the internal buffer solution and the external process medium.

Then, this potential is measured against the stable Ag/AgCl reference half-cell, which maintains constant output through a high-viscosity electrolyte and multiple ceramic junctions that provide excellent ion conduction while resisting poisoning.

Finally, the resulting millivolt signal follows the Nernst relationship (approximately 59.16 mV per pH unit at 25°C), with the sensor’s high slope (>96%) and low internal resistance ensuring fast, reliable conversion to accurate pH values, even at elevated temperatures where many electrodes lose sensitivity.
