PH328 Soil pH Meter: pH/Temperature/Moisture Measuring for Garden, Lawn, Farm Plant Care
Introduction
The PH328 Soil pH Meter is a compact, portable handheld instrument engineered for rapid and reliable on-site soil testing. This multi-parameter device measures soil pH (acidity/alkalinity), temperature, and humidity simultaneously, enabling users to evaluate soil conditions directly in the field without the need for laboratory equipment or complex calibration processes.
Its intuitive design features a long stainless-steel probe for deep soil insertion, a clear backlit LCD with switchable °C/°F units, and simple one-button operation for power, mode selection, and backlight control. Powered by two 1.5V AAA batteries, the best pH meter for soil testing includes automatic shut-off after 5 minutes of inactivity to conserve energy, along with low-battery alerts for uninterrupted fieldwork.
Ideal for farmers, gardeners, researchers, and environmental professionals, the PH328 soil pH test meter delivers quick, actionable insights to optimize crop growth, adjust soil amendments, and monitor environmental health effectively.
Working principle
The PH328 digital soil pH meter employs electrochemical sensing technology via its integrated probe in 3 steps:
Step 1: pH Measurement
The soil test pH meter‘s probe tip uses a pH-sensitive electrode (glass or composite) that detects hydrogen ion (H⁺) concentration in soil moisture. When inserted into moist soil, the electrode generates a small voltage proportional to the pH level according to the Nernst equation. This voltage is converted into a digital pH reading on the LCD.
Step 2: Temperature Measurement
An integrated thermistor sensor measures soil temperature, which is crucial for compensating pH readings (as pH is temperature-dependent).
Step 3: Humidity Measurement
A capacitive humidity sensor detects relative humidity in the soil by measuring changes in capacitance caused by moisture levels.
The device switches modes via the MODE button, displaying one parameter at a time. Readings stabilize quickly (within seconds) after insertion, and the backlit display ensures visibility in low-light conditions.
Note: Measurements are most accurate in moist soil; dry or overly compacted soil may require watering or loosening for reliable results.
